Clothing recon ideas from Vilde Svaner

Vilde Svaner SHIRT WRAP DRESS

Vilde Svaner is a sustainable fashion brand from Germany. One of the features about their collections are to morph recycled clothing, for example mens shirts, in their designs to create unique and sustainable fashion. The result is simple and chic eco wear. It makes them also good inspiration for clothing recon projects.

Vilde Svaner also manufactures locally fabrics from stinging nettle (like Brennels in Netherlands) for their clothing. Stinging nettle (Finnish. nokkonen, Swedish. nässla) is one of the new eco fibres that could be used to replace cotton and polyester in the fashion market. Like hemp, it can be grown in cold and harsh climates, without any pestesites and little watering. Stinging nettle was actually harvested widely for textile use before cotton production overthrough it in the industrial revolution. With the new improvements in modern fabric production, stinging nettle can be made today to feel very comfortable, even more softer and comfortable than linen. It is similar to linen but does not wrinkle as easily and it is stronger than cotton. Like hemp, the whole stinging nettle plant (leaf and stem) can be used for fibre production, when cotton plants can be used only in parts.
