Well, Mr. Margiela has left the building but the house creative team is still alive and making amazing stuff. I´m happy to see the brand still has a sence of humor and a flair for irony. The Margiela brand has many in-house labels and product lines, but Artisanal is my favorite by far as the team uses it to create artsy, but werable garments from literally anyting. Margiela is the first professional trashionista as far as I know. His label is actually one of the first brands that I noticed 13 years ago making clothes from not fabrics, but objects (trash..?), which lead me to study their recycle design style more and find out what separated them from all other recycle crafters. Margiela has always made their trashion design look clean and sophisticated. Here are some of my favorites from Margiela Fall 2009 lines:
This grey scotch tape belted jacket worn with a flesh body and blue scotch taped destroyed jeans. Definate non-permanent DIY potential. Does anyone know how this kind of see-through plastic can be fused or melted to the garment permanetly?? "Scotch tape gatherings". Gotta love how they think...
"CHAIN BIKER JACKET"
A leather biker jacket is embroidered with chains and vintage jewelry creating a floral motif.
Hours: 42
"SHAVED FUR"
A vintage fur coat is partially shaved following a zebra motif, creating a trompe-l’oeil effect.
Hours: 21
"MOHAIR COAT"
Sweaters from the 80’s are cut and assembled to form a three-quarter length coat. (Similar technique that I used with my DIY sweater cape jacket).
Hours: 14
"REFLECTOR DRESS"
Pieces of bicycle reflectors are broken by hand and embroidered on a dress, in a mosaic style, and drawn in a paisley motif.
Hours: 25
"FAN BOLERO"
Fans in feather or printed motifs are applied on a leather base to form a sleeveless bolero.
Hours: 8
White objects series: A group of russian matryoshka nesting dolls painted white. Drill small holes on top of their heads, and you´ve got recycle design salt and pepper shakers! :D
Didn't like the duct tape at all but the reflectors were fabulous as well as the shaved fur... the piece de resistance was the chain jacket though; GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeletePersonally I wouldn't have painted the russian dolls white; I would have just used them as salt and pepper shakers just the way they are.

Jenni, I totally agree with you on the russian dolls, I also prefer them just the way they are, but most people don´t. They are too decorative and colorful for the general scandinavian decor taste. But one can never please everyone. I´ve tried to find a set of 5 dolls from the fleamerkets for ages now...

Anonyymi, kuvaustekstissä kerrotaan että ne on ensin rikottu ja sitten ommeltu käsin mekkoon kiinni (tod.näk. porattu reiät heijastimen reunaan). Heijastimen voi myös liimata kontakti- tai kuumaliimalla. Olen kokeillut :)
ReplyDeleteTalvitakkeihin saisi käsinommelluista heijastimenpaloista aika hauskoja ja myös käytännöllisiä yksityiskohtia. Paljon tyylikkäänpää kuin roikkuva Osuuspankin perusheijastin!! Niihin on vain porattava ne reiät ensin, mutta uskoisin sen onnistuvan pienelläkin kotiporakoneella.

ReplyDeleteOlen lukennut että heijästimet on rikottu, mutta reikien poraaminen ei edes tullut mieleeni. Vähän pelottaa:)) Haluan kuitenkin kokeilla sillä sun esittelemä mekkosi on hurmaava:)

Heijastimet olivat yllättävän pehmeää muovia. Mieheni ainakin sahasi niitä palasiksi lehtisahalla! :D Poraaminen on helpompaa jos saat heijastimen kinnitettyä pöydänreunaan esim. puristimella. Itse käytin porausalustana vanhaa puista paksua leikkulautaa niin ei haitannut vaikka porasi "yli".
