Ethical Clothing Cannot be a Pity Product

The quote of the day comes from Katharine Hamnett, Brittish fashion designer and eco fashion extraordinare.

“You might think people would buy clothes out of pity, but they won’t. People buy clothes because they want to be excited about themselves. So it can’t just be goody-goody clothing; it has to be great clothing that just happens to be goody-goody, too. You’ve got to put the fashion first.”

Could not agree more. People are unfortunately vain. If you want them to get into eco fashion, it must be FASHIONABLE. Pains me every time to see ecological clothes that are not pretty or stylish. It´s like trying to offer people a blue stake at a restaurant and tell them how delicious it really is. Or something.

  1. Spot on! It's like all of the people who want sustainable fashion are bloody hippie, flowers pattern lover or linen freaks! It's not like this! i completely agree, fashion comes first.

  2. I completely agree to, Just because you want to be sustainable doesn't mean you have to look like Crap, I think to be fashionable is to have self pride in a way.
